ARTIST STATEMENT

For me memories and everyday life feed into each other.  Every person carries around a history of who they are that causes a reaction or how they interpret a given situation.  A certain situation can bring a tear to one person while laughter to another.  For lack of better words, the possibilities are endless.
This is a lot of what fuels me while I am painting or drawing.  I try to let my imagination run wild with distorted perspectives and exaggerated colors hopefully creating an embellished example of everyday life.  This is done with the intention of breaking down the fact that what you are looking at is an actual place in time, showing just how distorted memories are.  Yet we can all relate to them with one of the endless events and possibilities that lead us to who we are.
I’d like to think while each piece has a meaning and intent behind it for me that it isn’t complete until a person is bringing the history of who they are into the picture.
